The Bulldogs Conclude Washington Series on Sunday

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State bats were held at bay by the Washington pitching staff as the Huskies won game two of the three game series 11-4. Over the first eight innings the Washington pitching staff held the Bulldogs to two hits and a single run.
After a historic season the defending National Champions celebrating last night in front of a sold out crowd of 3,825 by raising the College World Series flag and unveiling several other new championship signage. On a cloudy afternoon, 2,849 fans came out to watch game two of the series against Washington. The crowd would have topped a home game crowd in the 2008 season by nearly 800 fans.
"We got out pitched and out played, they were better offensively," said head coach Mike Batesole. "We got stuck offensively and didn't make any adjustments. You have to give their pitcher credit, he located (his pitches) very well. Sometimes senior left-handers can make a team look like that. That's what happened, with the younger club we have to learn from that and get better."
The youth of Bulldog baseball was present as four freshmen made their first appearances.
Trent Garrison debuted behind the plate and Tom Harlan threw his first pitch for the `Dogs in the eighth inning. Buchanan High graduate Brennan Gowens replaced Gavin Hedstrom in center field as Hedstrom moved to second.
Cody Kendall and Josh Poytress also threw for the first time for the Bulldogs.
Sean Bonesteele started on the mound for the Bulldogs. In 3 1/3 innings pitched Bonesteele recorded three strikeouts.
Washington got on the board first with three runs in the top of the second. In the third inning the Huskies increased their lead to 4-0 with a solo home run.
The Bulldogs answered in the bottom of the third inning scoring their first run of the afternoon. Danny Muno reached base on a walk and then stole second base. Jake Johnson hit his second double of the season bringing in Muno, to make the score 4-1. Johnson lead the team with three RBIs this season and a .714 slugging percentage after the first two games.
The Huskies scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning, three of which were unearned.
In the bottom of the fifth Kendall mad his first appearance earning his first career strikeout.
Fresno State's pitching staff went on to shutout the Huskies for four innings before Washington scored two more runs in the top of the ninth.
A late rally for the Bulldogs came in the bottom of the ninth as freshman Trent Garrison hit a double at his first at-bat as a Bulldog. After Kenny Wise reached on a walk, Gowens hit a single through the left side to load the bases. Muno walked bringing in Garrison and making the scored 11-2.
The next batter Hedstrom hit a single to right center driving in both Gowens and Wise. The Bulldog rally ended there making the final score 11-4.
The `Dogs conclude the three game series against Washington Sunday, Feb. 22 at 1:05 p.m.
