Fresno State Competes with UCLA

The Fresno State women's tennis team battled tough with No. 8 UCLA, one of the top programs in college tennis, but fell 6-1 to the Bruins on Thursday in Los Angeles.
Bulldog Tinesta Rowe picked up a team point in a dramatic three-set, 6-4, 3-6, (10-2) victory over UCLA's Ashley Joelson.
The senior from Ocho Rios, Jamaica, also partnered with Melanie Gloria to defeat the UCLA tandem of Maya Johansson and Joelson, 7-4 before the Bruins retired.
Bulldog senior Bruna Paes pushed her opponent, Stephanie Wetmore, to a third set tiebreaker in the 6-7(3), 6-3, (10-7) victory for the Bruins.
"Give credit to UCLA," head coach Simon Thibodeau said. "They made a lot of great plays and it's hard environment to play."
Thibodeau also believes the Bulldogs will take a lot away from matching up with one of the elite teams in the nation.
"We are a dangerous team and we will play even better as the season progresses," Thibodeau said.
The Bulldogs will next be in action on Saturday against Pacific at 5:30 p.m. at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
