Bulldogs Sweep Pacific

FRESNO, Calif. - The 15th-ranked Fresno State women's tennis team built some momentum with a 7-0 shutout over Pacific on Saturday at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
"After a grueling match with UCLA on Thursday, I was really happy with how we competed tonight," head coach Simon Thibodeau said. "It was a good sign."
The Bulldogs got off to a good start by winning all three doubles matches. The top-ranked team of Renata Kucerkova and Anastasia Petukhova defeated Pacific's Jennifer Widjaja and Olga Gumenyuk 8-0.
No. 14 Melanie Gloria and Tinesta Rowe picked up an 8-1 win over Jolanta Twarowska and Sasha Fisher. Danon Beatty and Laura Pola teamed up for a 8-1 victory over Svenja Arens and Kateryna Nezhura.
No. 79 Kucerkova was the first Bulldog individual to wrap up their match. She knocked off Arens, in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
Rowe clinched the match for the Bulldogs with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Nezhura.
"I played a pretty clean match with very few unforced errors," Rowe said. "I played smart and played the right shots at the right time."
Gloria won her singles match 6-0, 6-3 over Widjaja, while Petukhova defeated Twarowska 6-1, 6-1. Senior Bruna Paes continued to play well in the singles lineup, with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Gumenyuk. Pola came away with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Clara Schumacher.
The Bulldogs will return to Wathen Tennis Center on March 11 to play host to Penn.
