FRESNO, Calif. - Andrea Alires is a senior on this year's lacrosse team. This is her first year playing the sport after lettering four years on the Bulldog women's soccer team.
What is your favorite vacation destination?
I like tropical places, the Caribbean or Panama
Why makes lacrosse such a fun sport to play?
It's fun because it is a brand new sport that I am still learning. It has been awesome playing soccer all my life but now learning how to play lacrosse is a whole new experience for me. I had really only seen men's lacrosse on ESPN once in a while. I am so grateful for this opportunity to double letter in two sports and at the Division 1 level.
What was the first sport you played and how old were you?
Gymnastics then found my true passion a couple months later at the tender age of six, soccer.
What is your favorite class and professor at Fresno State?
Favorite Class: Sports Marketing. All we did was talk about sports, especially related to the business aspect of it. How could you not love that? Favorite Professor: Dr. Rice. He made me think outside the box when it come to marketing and advertising. He pushed me to not take the easy path but to create my own path.
What is something people may not know about you?
When I was 10 I went to National Junior Olympics and was a double medalist in the high jump and the triathlon.
What is your most embarrassing sports moment?
When I was seven years old I scored my first goal. There was a young kid about 15 who was refereeing my game. When I scored I was so excited. I was jogging back to the center circle with the team crowed around congratulating me. He asked me for my number. I thought he was asking for my home phone number, so I proceed to say 899-7651. He let out a big laugh and said 'no your jersey number.' I started to turn red and smiled then said two. I have some recollection getting a little embarrassed because I thought he was a cute older boy.
If you could play any sport besides lacrosse what would it be and why?
Golf! It is the hardest sport in the world and that is one reason why I like it. Golf is also a sport where it has lots sophistication about it. I would love you be hanging out at some of the best golf courses and country clubs in the world.
Favorite food?
Dion's Pizza- Pepperoni and green chili mmmm! Dion's is a local chain restaurant in Albuquerque N.M., my hometown.
