HONOLULU - Freshman guard Paul George paced the Bulldogs with 13 points and five rebounds as Fresno State found no `Aloha' feeling in O'ahu as the `Dogs lost 69-43 to Hawai'i in the Stan Sheriff Center on Thursday night.
Senior Hawai'i center Bill Amis started the scoring with a turn-around jumper to spark a 10-0 sprint out of the gates to open the game.
Junior forward Sylvester Seay earned the Bulldogs' first point by hitting the back end of a set of free throws to cut the deficit to nine. Seay finished with 10 points while freshman guard Mychal Ladd added 11.
The Rainbows controlled momentum from start to finish as they worked the glass hard and knocked down shots all over the floor.
With the Bulldogs trailing 24-4 late in the first half, George recorded a lay-up and hit a 3-pointer, followed by a Seay free throw to bring the `Dogs within 26-10.
At the break, Hawai'i led 34-10 as George led Fresno State with five points, three rebounds and a pair of blocks while Seay also tallied two blocks to go with four points and four boards.
One highlight in the second half came with 13:52 to go in the game when sophomore guard Myles Green drove a steal down the floor and zipped a bounced pass to a sprinting Seay for a lay-up. On the next offensive possession, Seay lofted in a soft jumper to cap a 15-10 run to start the second half.
But the Bulldogs never found any rhythm despite playing better after halftime during the rough road loss on the islands. Fresno State falls to 9-14 on the season and 1-7 in conference play. Hawai'i improves to .500 on the season at 11-11 and 3-7 in WAC action.
