FULLERTON, Calif. - In the opener of the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif., No. 21 Fresno State fell 3-1 to No. 10 Michigan. The `Dogs are now 13-9 on the year.
Sophomore Morgan Melloh (9-7) had 11 strikeouts and allowed just two hits, but one was a solo home run in the first to Amanda Chidester and the second was a two-run home run in the third to Angela Findlay.
Wolverine starter Jordan Taylor who took the loss in last year's 6-5 Bulldog victory over Michigan, earned the win in this game as she pitched a no-hitter through four.
The Bulldogs got to her in the fifth for the first hit of the game, a shot hit back to Taylor off of the bat of freshman Michelle Moses.
Jody Badorine pinch ran for Moses and would score off of a single to shallow left field after a Nicole Angene double.
Fresno State got to Taylor again in the sixth as Taylor was pulled and replaced by Nikki Nemitz who started the game at first base. She entered the circle and struck out five of six Bulldog batters she faced to earn her first save on the year.
Fresno State continues play in the Judi Garman Classic on Friday as it takes on No. 24 Florida State at 3:30 p.m. followed by No. 15 Louisiana-Lafayette at 5:30 p.m.
