FRESNO, Calif.- It is time for the Fresno State women's lacrosse team to play somebody other than themselves. Since the Bulldogs last game on March 6 at Oregon, they will have had almost three weeks between games before they take the field on March 25 in Cincinnati at 10 a.m. Pacific Time.
"I am excited to go on the road, bond as a team, and play against three good teams," Fresno State coach Sue Behme said. "One of our main focal points in this second third of the season is to focus on details on and off the field. Every detail we focus on continues to help us build on what we have already done. Our players, our units, and our team is moving forward and this is what matters the most."
The Bulldogs also play at Detroit and Presbyterian in Detroit on March 27 and 29. Game times are 1 p.m. and 8 a.m. Pacific time for the two games. Six of Fresno State's next seven games are in the Central or Eastern time zones. After the trip to Detroit, the Bulldogs return to Bulldog Stadium to play Saint Mary's on April 4 at 1 p.m.
After the home game, Fresno State travels to New York, Maryland and Washington D.C. for games against St. Bonaventure, Johns Hopkins and Howard.
Fresno State is looking for its first win of the season while Cincinnati is 4-3 and led by Laura Simanski's 22 goals and two assists. Lindsey Marshall has 15 goals and three assists while Lauren Houck has a team-best seven assists. The Bearcats have lost three of their last four games. Cincinnati is averaging just over 10 games a game.
The break before Wednesday's game against the Bearcats has been good for the Bulldogs as the coaching staff has worked with the team on various fundamental and tactical drills.
"After returning from Oregon we spent last week focusing on fundamental skills and consistency in the execution of tactical drills," Behme said. "This week we have been spending a lot of time on offensive transition and our defensive breakout out of the backfield. We will wrap the week up with execution of our offensive sets, defensive rides, as well as all of the details of the game we are attempting to perfect."
