FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State's cross country roster will boast another Valley standout this fall. Buchanan High School standout Daniel Vartanian signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Bulldogs.
"We're excited to have Danny join the program," said cross country coach Sean McManus. "Buchanan has a strong tradition of being a nationally competitive program that has produced some top college runners. I expect Danny to continue in that tradition."
Vartanian found his stride as one of the best distance runners in the Valley this last fall, taking second at the Central Section Cross Country Championships and eighth at the California Division I Cross Country Championships this year. Vartanian's 5K time of 15:18 at Woodward Park solidifies his place in Valley history, making him the 12th fastest in Central Section history. At the Nike Cross Country Nationals, Buchanan took ninth as a team.
Vartanian's older brother, David Vartanian, competed for Fresno State cross country in 2007.
