Bulldogs Score a Season High Nine Goals

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's lacrosse team scored the most goals of the season and allowed the fewest goals but a second-half rally fell just short as the Bulldogs lost 11-9 to Howard on Saturday morning in Washington D.C.
Fresno State out shot Howard, 28-21 and won the ground balls, 19-10. The `Dogs also had a season-low 14 turnovers while Howard had 19.
"We fought hard to the end," Fresno State coach Sue Behme said. "We forced a lot of turnovers and took care of the ball better in the second half. We had several scoring opportunities but we couldn't find the back of the net. Now we rest and get ready for Denver. Tomorrow is a new day."
Emily Erwin, Molly Sovacool and Aja Scheuber each had two goals goals while Heather Jack, Stefani Jericoff and Marshai Iverson each scored one goal.
Trailing 9-3 in the first minute of the second period, the Bulldogs proceeded to score the next two goals to come within four at 9-5.
Howard then went up 11-5 with 13 minutes left in the game when the Bulldogs scored the final four goals to make the score 11-9.
Sovacool scored the first of her two goals with 7:30 left in the game and added her second two minutes later. Jack scored her goal with 3:39 remaining and Scheuber added her goal with 1:59 to play in the contest.
The scoring started when Erwin scored the first goal of the game five minutes into the first period to give Fresno State a 1-0 lead. Less than a minute later Howard tied the game at one and then proceeded to score the next four goals to lead 5-1 with 11:43 remaining until halftime.
Scheuber then scored her first goal of the game with eight minutes remaining in the period. The Bison scored the next three goals before Jericoff tallied her goal with 47 seconds left.
"Join the State - Fresno State"- The Fresno State women's lacrosse team returns home to play the University of Denver in its final home game on Monday at Noon. The first 200 fans into the game will receive a voucher for a free hot dog.
