Focused Bulldogs for Senior Day

FRESNO, Calif. - No. 15 Fresno State started the Senior Day tripleheader with an emphatic 7-0 shutout of Louisiana Tech on Saturday at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs cruised in doubles and dominated in singles.
The top-ranked doubles team of Anastasia Petukhova and Renata Kucerkova defeated Ada Makowska and Maartje de Witt, 8-1. Seniors Tinesta Rowe and Bruna Paes teamed up for the first time this year and knocked off Ashley Wedderburn and Laura Rodriguez, 8-2.
In singles, the Bulldogs only lost five games in the entire match. No. 23 Petukhova, No. 77 Kucerkova and Laura Pola each won 6-0, 6-0. Petukhova was particularly overwhelming for her opponent, Makowska, and at one point, won five-straight games without giving up a point.
No. 14 Gloria beat Wedderburn 6-0, 6-1, and Paes capped off the shutout with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Laura Rodriguez.
"I just played my game," Paes said. "We're all pretty excited and the group is very united."
Louisiana Tech only suited up five players and had to forfeit one doubles and one singles match.

Fresno State Sweeps Utah State
The No. 15 Fresno State women's tennis team extended its conference shutout streak to four matches with a 7-0 sweep of Utah State on Saturday at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
Fresno State made short work of the Aggie doubles combos, winning all three matches by a combined score of 24-2.
Laura Pola and Danon Beatty started the route by knocking off Britney Watts and Taylor Perry, 8-0. The top-ranked doubles combo of Anastasia Petukhova and Renata Kucerkova dismissed Hailey Swenson and Bridgette Strickland, 8-0. Melanie Gloria and Bruna Paes finished it off with an 8-2 victory over Monica Abella and Carla Limon.
In singles, No. 23 Petukhova was the first Bulldog to finish, by defeating Strickland, 6-0, 6-0.
The Bulldogs kept the momentum when No. 77 Kucerkova beat Abella, 6-1, 6-1, Pola knocked off Limon, 6-1, 6-2, Gloria defeated Swenson, 6-0, 6-2, and Paes picked up a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Watts.
Tinesta Rowe capped off the shutout with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Taylor Perry.

'Dogs Dominant Against NMSU
The No. 15 Fresno State women's tennis team concluded an emotional Senior Day with a 7-0 sweep of New Mexico State on Saturday at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center. The match was the icing on the cake as the Bulldogs concluded a three-match day with a trio of wins.
Five Bulldog seniors were honored for their service to Fresno State and the community -- Danon Beatty, Melanie Gloria, Bruna Paes, Tinesta Rowe and Danielle Kjar.
"It was a fun, emotional day that we're never going to forget," Gloria said about the festivities.
The Bulldogs have shutout all five conference opponents they faced this year.
Freshman Laura Pola was the first to finish for the Bulldogs against the Aggies. She defeated New Mexico State's Natalia Salum Soto in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0.
No. 23 Anastasia Petukhova had another impressive showing in her 6-1, 6-1 victory over Laura Boguet.
Fittingly, Rowe, a senior, clinched the match for the Bulldogs with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Aleksa Costa.
No. 77 Renata Kucerkova defeated Stephanie Eusebe, 6-0, 7-6 (7-1). No. 14 Gloria went to a super tiebreaker to win her match over Sophia Marks, 6-2, 2-6, (10-3). Paes also won in an extra set over Isabella Kulaif, 6-2, 4-6, (10-6).
In doubles, No. 1 Petukhova and Kucerkova sent away Marks and Costa, 8-0. No. 12 Gloria and Rowe defeated Kulaif and Eusebe, 8-1. Pola and Danon Beatty knocked off Salum and Boguet, 8-2.
"It was a long day and we're glad we were able to have swept all three matches," head coach Simon Thibodeau said. "It was draining and we need some rest to get ready for the WAC tournament."
The win extends Fresno State's record to 16-5 overall and 5-0 in WAC play.
Fresno State will next be in action on April 17 against Hawai'i and Idaho and the following day against Boise State.
