Bulldogs Take Third

Fresno State finished third at the WAC women's golf championship with freshman Louisa Lies sharing second. The Bulldogs shot 303-288-305 -898 to finish the tournament in third place with 34-over par. San Jose State (870/+6) won the WAC championship with a 19-stroke victory over Idaho at the 6,133-yard, par-72 Wolf Run Golf Club in Reno, Nev.
Fresno State's Louisa Lies, finished in a second place tie at 1-over with a three-round total of 217 to have her first top five appearance of her career. Lies posted a 74 on Wednesday to hold on to a share of second place. Lies was solid at 2-under par until the 12th hole. With four consecutive bogeys, she was sitting at 2-over par and three holes to go. She held on and shot an even par on hole 16. She posted another boogey on hole 17 and on the final hole she fired a birdie. Lies led the field in par five scoring and fired eight birdies. Idaho's Kayla Mortellaro (217/+1) is the individual that Lies would share second place with.
San Jose State senior Erica Moston won the individual title after starting today's round in third place. Moston's 70 on Wednesday was the best final round score of the day and enabled her to be the only player to finish under par at -2 (71-73-70--214).
"This was a great tournament for Louisa," said head coach Angie Cates-Moore. "She gained a lot of experience this week and we are all really happy for her."
Two-time Second Team All-WAC recipient, senior Taylor Siebert, finished the day on a high note. She fired a 71 in the third round to climb the leaderboard and complete the day tied for ninth. Siebert led the team with 10 birdies on the tournament. This performance was her second top 10 finish of the year. It is also the second time she has finished in the top 10 of the field during WAC Championships.
"We are so happy Taylor finished her college career on a good note," said Cates-Moore. "She was one of the founding members of this program and we thank her for helping us build this team."
Lindi Covarrubias tied for 17th place with 13-over par 229. Covarrubias posted 78-71-78. Chelsea Czinski fired a three-round total of 230. She was 14-over par with rounds of 77-73-80. Czinski tied for 21st along with teammate Coppin who shot rounds of 78-71-81 to complete the tournament along with nine birdies.
In the rest of the team competition, Idaho was second (889, +25), Fresno State third (898, +34), Nevada fourth (900, +36), New Mexico State fifth (911, +47), Boise State sixth (916, +52), and Hawai`i seventh (940, +76). Also announced today were the all-WAC teams and top awards.
Fresno State's Taylor Siebert earned Second Team All-WAC honors for the second consecutive year.
