Doverspike Fires a Hole-in-One

FRESNO, Calif.- After a hole-in-one by junior Grant Doverspike, the Fresno State men's golf team shot 5-over 565 on the day to stand tied for fifth place with Oregon State.
The Bulldogs shot a 284 in the first round and followed that up with a 281 in the second round. The team leads the tournament in birdies and eagles with 33 and 2, respectively.
UC Davis (558/-2) is the leader and the only team to shot under par for the tournament. UC Davis leads Northwestern and Oregon State, who are tied for second, by two strokes. UTEP is in fourth with a total of 564. Oregon State's, Morten Madsen, leads the Cowboy Classic with a 7-under par 133 after the first two rounds.
"We played really solid in the first round today," said head coach Mike Watney. "The wind was everywhere and we handled it well. We put ourselves in a good position to battle our way up the leaderboard and hopefully it will work out."
Doverspike leads the team with a 2-over par 142. He fired an ace on the 11th hole of the course. Doverspike's first round was a 72. He then followed that up with a 2-under par 70 in the second round.
Bryan Hogan is currently tied for 30th after finishing the day at 3-over par 143. Todd Angel (145/+5) leads the team and tournament with nine birdies and sits tied for 41st with teammates Brian Sunker and Michael Gideon. Angel also carded the team's low round of 66 in the first 18-holes. Gideon carded rounds of 72 and 73. Sunker is competing an individual. Bhavik Patel is tied for 68th after firing a 69 in the first round.
The Bulldogs play the final round on Tuesday with tee times at 7:45 a.m. off of holes one and 10.
