FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's lacrosse team closed the books on its inaugural season on Saturday with its end of the year banquet.
"I couldn't be more proud of what we accomplished in nine months," Fresno State coach Sue Behme said. "We will always be the first women's lacrosse team at Fresno State. We have inspired people to get better and be better people."
There were four individual awards given out at the banquet. Emily Erwin was named the Offensive Most Valuable Player. She finished the year with seven goals and two assists after being inserted into the starting lineup.
Krisdina Gehring was named the Defensive Most Valuable Player while Christina Cabias garnered the Most Improved Player award. Lorileigh Chung received the Sportsmanship award.
All the awards were voted on by the student-athletes on the team.
Behme also commented on how she was pleased with the service her team provided in the Central Valley. At the recent Night of Champions, the women's lacrosse team received the Athletics Director Community Service award for donating more community service hours than any team in the department.
"It's a huge accomplishment," Behme said. "What we do off the field is more important than what we do on the field. We wanted to be that team on campus that went above and beyond and rose to the top."
