FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men's and women's cross country racers are set to take part in a pre-season event Saturday, Aug. 22, as they carry on the long time Bulldog tradition of the Watermelon Run. This time around will mark the 45th historic all-comer event in which athletes and fans are encouraged to compete.
This year's Watermelon Run features two races and multiple age classes giving everyone a fair shot at victory. The first race will be a 2-mile race starting at 8 a.m. and the second will be a 4-mile race taking place at 8:45 a.m. Each race will begin at the corner of Cedar and Barstow. Registration for the event will start at 7 a.m. in the Q lot across from Bulldog Diamond on Barstow. The cost to participate is $5 dollars and all competitors will receive a large juicy piece of watermelon at the finish line.
"The Watermelon Run is a good opportunity to get the community involved," said cross country coach Sean McManus. "Having both the 2 and 4 mile races gives kids from the local high schools, students from the university and anyone the community a chance to participate before the season starts." So come on out and join in on the festivities and let's get amped for a great season of Bulldog cross country.
