Patel Heading to Round of 16

FRESNO, Calif. - Bulldog sophomore Bhavik Patel showcased a grit and determination as he powered to a 2 up victory over Brad Revell of Canada in the U.S. Amateur Round of 32 to earn a spot in the Round of 16.
Patel will play Marcel Puyat of the Philippines this afternoon at 12:05 p.m. PT., with television coverage on The Golf Channel.
After qualifying for the final 64 at the U.S. Amateur through two rounds of stroke play, Patel defeated Patrick Rada (3 & 2) of Anderson, S.C. on Wednesday in the Round of 64.
"Bhavik is a great player but so is everyone in the field at this point," said head coach Mike Watney. "He certainly is playing well under the most extreme pressure. Nothing he does surprises me because he has a lot of game."
Patel posted a 36-hole total of 145 (76-69) on the par 70 Southern Hills Golf Course in Tulsa, Okla., during the first two rounds of stroke play. He finished in a 12-way tie for 20th, compiled six birdies and 20 pars.
