FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State cross-country team will pack their bags and head to Nevada this weekend to compete in the season-opening Nevada Twilight Cross County Classic on Friday night.
This will mark the second year in a row that Fresno State has opened the season at the Nevada Twilight, which is in its third year.
The Bulldogs look to start the 2009 season out with a bang as they face off against the likes of Nevada, Stanford and UC Riverside in the season's only night race to be held at Shadow Mountain in Sparks, Nev.
Fresno State coaches and players alike are excited to finally start the season and get back on the track.
"We are just excited to get back on the track and compete," said head coach Shawn McManus. "We are returning a lot of racers from last year and hopefully that experience will be helpful."
Erick Garcia looks to duplicate his performance from last year where he dominated the 6K competition to come home with the victory.
This year's meet will feature two : the 6K men's race, set to shoot off at 7:20 p.m. and the 4K women's race at 8:30 p.m.
The Bulldogs, as a team, look to improve on last years marks in which the men's team finished second and the women's team came home in third.
"This should be a good meet for us," said McManus. "This year's Nevada Twilight features some good competition, which will undoubtedly put us to the test."
