Fresno State swimming and diving will host its first two home meets in the Fleck era this week as they face off against Pacific on Thursday Jan. 14 at 4:00 p.m. and CSUB on Saturday Jan. 16 at Clovis North High School. Both meets will be free admission as the Bulldogs are looking for the red waves support. The `Dogs look to use home pool advantage in their favor for the first time since the 2003 season. When crunching the numbers, Fresno State looks have a legitimate shot at coming away with two wins this week as the season best times favor the Bulldogs in multiple events.
Scouting the `Runners Coming out of the PAC-10, the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners know what it takes to compete against big schools like Cal, Stanford and UCLA. The `Runners sit at 1-4 on the season coming into the meet on Jan. 16. This will be the second time this year that the Bulldogs have competed against Bakersfield with the first coming in the Toshiba Classic where Fresno State ended up 11th and CSUB finished 17th.
Scouting UOP The University of the Pacific swimming team, coming out of the Big West Conference, looks to be a good matchup for the Bulldogs. The Tigers have been very competitive all year and currently sit at 4-3 on the season. Season-best times in multiple events show that both teams will have to be at the top of their game if they want to prevail in this meet.
`Dogs swimming and diving participates in Soles 4 Souls As Fresno State gets set to host its first home meet in the Fleck era, the Bulldogs are looking for the communities help in taking part in a really special charity program known as Soles 4 Souls.
Soles 4 Souls is a nation-wide charity fundraiser that is locally supported by the Sierra Running Company in which they collect and recycle used shoes to give to less fortunate people around the world. The Charity has been supported by a large number of prestigious organizations which include H&R Block, Lexus, The Good Feet Store and The Jonas Group and is also currently being promoted by Kim Kardashian in a 50,000 shoes in 50 Days Challenge fundraiser.
Bulldog fans, along with anyone else that would like to take part in the fundraiser are highly encouraged to bring any used or new sneakers that they would like to donate and throw them in the bins that will be placed at the entrance of the Clovis North High School swimming facility for both swim meets on Thursday Jan. 14 at 4:00 p.m. and Saturday Jan. 16 at noon.
"I think that everyone in this country has at least one or two pairs of old tennis shoes that are just laying around in a closet not being used and I see this as a great opportunity to help people around the world that don't have any shoes. "said head coach Jeanne Fleck. "I know that I have at least three pairs of sneakers that got a little dirty that I don't use anymore and I'm sure a lot of other people out there do too so why not give them to people that need them."
The Sierra Running Company will take all of the shoes donated from both swim meets and kindly disperse them to the Soles 4 Souls group who will refurbish and restore them to useable condition and then send them to needy families around the world.
"We wanted to do something to help the community and those in need," said swimming and diving student manager Rebecca Atchley. "We saw that Sierra Running Company was locally taking part in Soles 4 Souls and though it was a great opportunity to do our part.
