FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's soccer team earned a 2-0 win on the road over Louisiana Tech. It's the Bulldogs first win of the 2010 Western Athletic Conference season. The `Dogs improve to 5-8-2 and 1-3 in conference play.
"We've been playing okay lately, but the best part of today's game was the complete execution," said head coach Brian Zwaschka. "It was great to see the team get the result we want and deserve. We played well in every aspect of the game. The forward line, midfield line, defense line and goalkeeping all did their job well and I was pleased with their performance."
The Bulldogs put on the pressure right from the start recording three shots in the first 16 minutes.
In the 33rd minute the `Dogs took the lead after senior Bradlee DeShane scored her first goal of the season. Freshman Lauren Lindstrom played a ball to Nicole Duff, who passed it on the DeShane. DeShane scored from 10-yards out giving the Bulldogs the 1-0 lead.
At halftime, both teams had six shots a piece and goalkeeper Kaitlyn Revel had one save.
With eight minutes remaining, Duff scored her fourth goal of the season increasing the `Dogs lead to 2-0. Duff took a shot that was blocked and the senior was able to score on her rebound. Duff leads the team in goals and points. She recorded a career- high three points in a match with the goal and assist against the Lady Techsters.
Revel finished the game with three saves and the team ended the match with eight shots. Duff led the pack with three shots Sunday morning.
"It was big to get our first WAC win on the road," said Zwaschka. "We came into the game in a bit of a hole, but we never stopped believing that we could do it or that we weren't a good team. To split this weekend is nice because it is a tough travel schedule, but everyone dug in and did their part."
The Bulldogs return home this week for two games at Bulldog Stadium. The `Dogs welcome Utah State on Oct. 22 and Nevada on Oct. 24. Fresno State celebrates senior day against the Wolf Pack on Oct. 24. Admission to all soccer games is free for all.
