FRESNO, Calif. - In the final home game of the 2010 season, the Fresno State women's soccer team recorded it third tie of the year. The Bulldogs came from behind equalizing the match with a goal from senior Nicole Duff. The `Dogs tied Nevada 1-1 after 110 minutes of play on senior day. Fresno State is 6-8-3 overall and 2-3-1 in WAC.
"Everyone played pretty well today," said head coach Brian Zwaschka. "We definitely had our chances and it's disappointing that we weren't able to send the seniors off with a victory, but at least we had another good performance. We managed to battle it out for a 110 minutes and the best part was that we came back from behind. We didn't panic and we scored a great goal in the closing seconds of the first half."
Fresno State honored its 11 seniors, who are graduating after this year. The 2010 senior class helped the Bulldogs win the 2008 WAC Championship and make their third trip to the NCAA tournament in school history.
"I am really proud of our seniors," said Zwaschka. "Every single one of them has developed significantly since we've been together. I am really excited that they are all contributing on such a high level and glad for Nicole (Duff) in getting the goal there."
The Bulldogs attacked quick and earlier. Within the first few minutes of the match the `Dogs had several shots blocked.
The Wolf Pack jumped ahead in the first six minutes of the game taking a 1-0 lead. Kori Disarunfino scored from outside the 18-yard box. Her shot hit the far post and went in.
Fresno State dominated possession in the first half and outshot Nevada 14-3 in the first 45 minutes. Laura Dodd had a beautiful attempt on goal to the far lower corner, but the Nevada goalkeeper came up with the save. Senior Krissy Looney had three shots in a row blocked towards the end of the half.
With less than 10 seconds remaining on the clock, Looney took a corner kick for the Bulldogs. Senior Katie Lee took a shot that was blocked and Duff connected for her fifth goal of the year with one second left on the clock. Duff's goal tied the game 1-1 just before the half time break.
In the second half, the Bulldogs maintained control and possession of the ball. The offense kept on the pressure taking seven shots. The `Dogs had several chances to take the lead, but their shots sailed wide or high of the goal.
At the end of regulation the game stayed tied at one goal apiece. Fresno State and Nevada battled through two overtime periods, but the game ended in a 1-1 tie. Senior Kaitlyn Revel had one save and the `Dogs finished with 21 shots. Duff had a team-high four shots.
The Bulldogs hit the road next week to finish the 2010 WAC regular season against Boise State on Oct. 29 and Idaho on Oct. 31.
