FRESNO, Calif. - The Bulldog swimmers traveled to Long Beach, Calif. for the three-day Arena Invitational. As a team the Dogs broke three school records in the 50-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard medley relay. The Dogs are currently in 16th place and still have two days left of competition.
"We had a very good night tonight," said head coach Jeanne Fleck. "It was great to break two relay records, these were the first broken since I have been at Fresno State and it's very exciting. Overall, the girls swam a lot of season and lifetime bests."
Dani Yoho (Sugar Land, Texas) broke two records. Yoho began the month on November by breaking the 50-yard freestyle event twice in one day and she has done it again. The sophomore swam a 23:32 in the 50-yard freestyle preliminaries breaking her record from earlier in the month. Later in the evening she clocked a 23.30 smashing her previous record for the fourth time this season.
Yoho was also a part of the record breaking 200-yard freestyle relay team that clocked a time of 1:35.28. Yoho along with Brooke Fuller, Kat Vietti and Stephanie Hatayama destroyed the previous Fresno State record of 1:36.76 and placed 16th overall.
The 400-yard medley relay team also shattered the previous school record time of 3:51.88. Heidi Gjoen, Michelle Dockendorf, Rayanne Nguyen and Brooke Fuller all pulled together to clock a time of 3:51.07 and set the third school record in one day.
"In three swims we had three school records broken," said Fleck. "Today was not predicted to be our strongest so we are looking forward to the rest of the weekend and to continue getting better."
"We Are Your Team!" - Fresno State swimming continues tomorrow with day two of the Arena Invitational. Live scoring on HY-TEK can be followed online and recaps and results will be updated on gobulldogs.com.
