FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State sophomore outside hitter Marissa Brand has been named Verizon Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 15-21. This is the first WAC Player of the Week honor of Brand's career.
"Marissa has earned this honor week after week with her consistent double-double performances," third-year head coach Lauren Netherby-Sewell said of Brand. "I'm so pleased she was finally awarded with this recognition. Marissa hadn't even trained as an outside hitter before this season. She's going to be a force next year in the WAC."
Brand, from Cypress, Calif. (Cypress HS), led the Bulldogs to a pair of victories over Idaho and San Jose State.
In the road win at Idaho, Brand paced the Bulldogs with 16 kills and 15 digs for her WAC-leading 12th double-double of the season, her eighth double-double in WAC play.
In a sweep over San Jose State, Brand recorded a match-high 14 kills (4.6 kps) for her 19th double-digit performance in kills this season.
On the week, Brand recorded 30 kills (4.3 kps) on a .297 hitting percentage and had 21 digs (3.0 dps) as Fresno State needed only seven sets to win a pair of WAC matches.
