FRESNO, Calif. - Saylah Barserian has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for Fresno State's women's cross-country and track and field teams beginning in the 2010 cross country season. Barserian will join the `Dogs this fall as a true freshman out of the Valleys own Clovis High School.
"We are really excited to have Saylah joining our program next fall," said cross-country coach Sean McManus. "She's is an extremely hard working and competitive young lady who has had success over a wide range of events, from the 800-meters in track to the 5k in cross country. She will be an instant contributor both on the track and in cross country. She's also a tremendous student, which is very important to our staff and team."
Barserian joins the Bulldogs boasting an impressive list of accomplishments including TRAC League cross-country champion and Central Section Division I cross country champion in her 2008 high school campaign. In 2009, Barserian posted solid finishes in multiple prestigious races including a fifth place finish in the Mt. SAC Sweepstakes race, runner-up in the 800- and 1600 meter races at the TRAC league and Central Section Cross Country Championships. Her performances during the season earned Barserian a qualification to the State cross country championships where she finished 11th place overall.
Barserian marked track personal bests of 2:18 in the 800, 4:59 in the 1600 and a 10:57 in the 3,200 races. Her top cross-country time in the 5k is 17:52 and was run at Woodward Park in Fresno.
