FRESNO, Calif. - No. 64 Fresno State took on the Pac-10's 31st-ranked Arizona State on Friday in Tempe, Ariz., with the Sun Devils coming away with a 6-1 non-conference victory.
Fresno State senior Renata Kucerkova picked up a victory in a super-tiebreaker against the Sun Devils' Nadia Abdala. Kucerkova dropped the first set, 3-6, but tied the match at one set apiece, by winning the second 7-5.
In the decisive super-tiebreaker set, Kucerkova outscored Abdala 10-6, to secure a win over a Pac-10 opponent.
Sophomore Laura Polo also pushed her match to a super-tiebreaker against No. 97 Kelcy McKenna, but the Sun Devil came away with a 6-4, 6-7, (10-3) victory.
"I was very proud with how Renata and Laura competed today," Fresno State head coach Simon Thibodeau said. "They showed great fighting spirit and left it all on the court. This match was a step forward to where we want to be."
The Bulldogs will finish the road trip with a match on a neutral court against the Big 12's No. 33 Texas on Saturday in Tempe, Ariz.
