FULLERTON, Calif. - On day three of the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif., Friday afternoon, the Bulldog softball team defeated Virginia 1-0. The `Dogs are 18-10 on the year.
Head coach Margie Wright picked up her 1,200 win at Fresno State. She is already the Fresno State, WAC and NCAA all-time winningest coach with over 1,300 career victories.
Bulldog sophomore pitcher Michelle Moses pitched her first career complete game shutout, allowing just three hits and striking out six with no walks. It was her second career win as she improved to 2-0 in the circle.
"It felt really great," Moses said of her win. "It's an adrenaline rush and a big accomplishment for me. I proved I can be more of a help to the pitching staff and play a bigger role than I have before."
A double by Michelle Moses led off the top of the fourth inning and a single up the middle by Lisamarie Coronado drove her in for the only run of the game.
"I was thinking that anything she throws I'm going to put the bat on," Moses said.
The `Dogs had three hits in the game, as Haley Gilleland and Lisamarie Coronado each had hits as well.
"It was a very well played ball game," said Wright. "Michelle did a great job in the mound and we had some really great defensive plays on the left side. We had some timely hitting and execution. It was a great day."
The `Dogs take on DePaul at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Live stats and audio will be available at www.gobulldogs.com.
