`Dogs Continue Play in San Diego

SAN DIEGO - No. 22 Fresno State met a tough UTEP team on Saturday morning in the San Diego Classic I at San Diego State, as the Miners came out on top with a 1-0 victory.
The `Dogs are 10-6 on the year and will face the host Aztecs at 2 p.m. today.
The lone run of the game for UTEP came in the third inning. They got the bases loaded with three-straight hits off of Bulldog starting pitcher Mackenzie Oakes. Oakes left with the bases loaded and Morgan Melloh entered. Melloh walked in the winning run.
Oakes got the loss though and is now 4-3 on the year. She allowed five hits and one run with three strikeouts in 2.1 innings. Melloh pitched 3.2 innings and had three strikeouts and allowed three hits. Melloh needs 17 strikeouts for 1,000 in her career.
Jody Badorine got the only hit for the `Dogs on the day vs. UTEP pitcher Stacie Townsend with a blooper to left field to lead off the seventh inning. Townsend allowed just one hit and had nine strikeouts.
