`Dogs Start Conference Season on Strong Note

FRESNO, Calif. - The defending eight-time WAC Champion Fresno State women's tennis team began the conference season by going 3-0 in a tripleheader on the road on Saturday in San Jose, Calif.
"I'm proud of this squad," Fresno State head coach Simon Thibodeau said. "It was a good test and the team played solid. We are starting to show our true game."
Fresno State 6, Idaho 1
Fresno State started the tripleheader with a dominating 6-1 victory over Idaho on Saturday in San Jose, Calif.
The Bulldogs took the doubles point by winning two of the three doubles matches. Renata Kucerkova and Laura Pola defeated Gabriela Niculescu and Maria Perevoshchikova, 8-6. Bulldog freshmen Bianca Modoc and Melissa McQueen set aside Yvette Ly and Silvia Irimescu, 8-3.
In singles action, the Bulldogs won five individual matches.
Julia Gragera-Cano, Anna Mikhailova, McQueen, Modoc and Kucerkova all picked up singles wins to start the day.
Fresno State 6, San Jose State 1
Fresno State continued its momentum from the morning match by notching another 6-1 victory over the host San Jose State Spartans on Saturday in San Jose, Calif.
Against the Spartans, the Bulldogs won all three doubles matches to start the match 1-0.
In singles, Renata Kucerkova, Bianca Modoc, Melissa McQueen, Julia Gragera-Cano and Anna Mikhailova all picked up victories for the Bulldogs.
Fresno State 6, Hawai'i 1
Fresno State capped off the tripleheader by winning its third match of the day, with a 6-1 victory over the Hawai'i Wahine on Saturday in San Jose, Calif.
For the third match in a row, the Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead, by winning the doubles point.
Laura Pola and Renata Kucerkova knocked off Sophie Kobuch and Katarina Poljakova, 8-5. Bianca Modoc and Melissa McQueen took care of Barbara Pinterova and Alyssa Nafarrete, 8-3.
Pola, Kucerkova, Modoc, McQueen and Julia Gragera-Cano each scored individual victories for the Bulldogs in singles action.
The `Dogs will next be in action in Las Cruces, N.M., against New Mexico State and Utah State on April 9 and then Nevada on April 10.
