FRESNO, Calif. - The new Fresno State swimming and diving team will soon have a pool on campus to call its own. The digging is underway for the new Aquatics Center that will be located off of Barstow and Cedar, just north of the North Gym and east of Bulldog Diamond.
The construction began on May 24, 2010 and is scheduled to be completed on Feb. 4, 2011. Currently at the site, most of the excavation work is completed and they are in the process of forming the pool walls and installing the plumbing for the bottom of the pool.
Soon Bulldog fans will see the foundation for the building walls going up in August. Concrete for the pool is expected to be poured in September and the pool deck looks to be completed in October.
The general contractor on the project is Lewis C. Nelson and Sons Inc., out of Fresno. The company has completed dozens of projects in the Central Valley and recently built the Fresno High School pool and the Fresno State Student Recreation Center. The architect for the project is the Taylor Teeter Partnership.
"It's great to see them out there digging and to see a hole in the ground," said head swimming and diving coach Jeanne Fleck. "We are excited for its completion and to be able to bring swimming and diving back to the Fresno State campus."
The swimming and diving program was brought back in 2008 and has completed two full seasons. Most of the team's practices have been held at Clovis North School where the team will continue to practice until their pool is complete.
