FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's soccer team opened the 2010 season on the road against Pepperdine. The Bulldogs were outscored 2-0 by the Waves. After the first game of the year, the `Dogs are 0-1. Fresno State returns home on Monday, Aug. 23 for the home opener against Long Beach State at 7 p.m.

"We started out a little flat and that forced us to chase Pepperdine," said head coach Brian Zwaschka. "The good thing from the game is that we were able to regroup, which shows maturity. We created some opportunities, but weren't able to finish. We were looking for the equalizing goal and got caught out and Pepperdine was able to score again."

In the first half, Pepperdine took the lead after Laura Cole scored on a penalty kick.

Preseason All-WAC goalkeeper Kaitlyn Revel recorded four saves in the first 90 minutes and added another two saves in the second half.

The Waves took a 1-0 lead into the half time break.

In the 68th minute, Anisa Guajardo scored an insurance goal for Pepperdine. Callie Payetta recorded the assist on the play.

The Bulldogs recorded six shots and had three shots on goal. Starters Molly Nizzoli, Laura Dodd, Claudia Cardenas, Vanessa Gonzalez and Lauren Lindstrom contributed shots. Senior Nicole Duff came off the bench and recorded a shot.Dodd, Cardenas and Lindstrom recorded shots on goal.

"We aren't overly concerned with the loss because Pepperdine is a good program and plays at high level," said Zwaschka. "We learned some important lessons during the course of the match and the team agreed that everything is fixable. We are excited for the next game at home to show that."

"We Are Your Team"-- The Bulldogs host the 49ers of Long Beach State on Monday, Aug. 23 in the 2010 home opener. The game kicks off at 7 p.m. in Bulldog Stadium. A lucky student who attends the home opener will go home with a $200 gift certificate to the Kennel Bookstore.
