LOGAN, Utah - Despite pressuring defending Western Athletic Conference champion Utah State for most of the night and a pair of freshmen contributing career-best efforts, the Bulldog volleyball team lost 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 20-25 and 14-25) to the Aggies in Logan on Thursday night.
"Tonight was a missed opportunity. We had our chances to beat this team," head coach Lauren Netherby-Sewell said. "We couldn't capitalize on the chances they were giving us or find any rhythm. We have to get more consistent."
Freshman middle blocker Maci Murdock (Turlock, Calif.) led the 'Dogs with a career-high 14 kills and delivered a .458 hitting percentage. Korrin Wild also landed double-digits (13 kills), but also made 15 errors on 49 attempts.
"Maci had a good night, but one (offensive player) isn't enough," Netherby-Sewell said. "We can't just keep playing roulette with who is going to play well on any given night. We need more than one or two hitters."
The Bulldogs' libero Christina Lee, a freshman who prepped in San Francisco, provided a solid defensive performance from the back row. She notched a career-best 27 digs, which shattered her previous high of 15 digs in a single match.
Fresno State (8-10, 3-3 WAC) will complete its two-match road swing at Idaho on Saturday night.
"We will look to sharpen our offense by Saturday and take some of this frustration out on Idaho," Netherby-Sewell said. "We need to have better practices, play with more confidence, and once we find that, we will be a pretty good team."
