About the Roadrunners
CSU Bakersfield (6-13) is on a two-match losing streak, but owns victories in two of its past four contests. The Roadrunners are led by Haleight Harbyk with 4.59 kps and a .215 attack percentage this season. CSUB swept NC Central in its only home match this year.
LAST WEEK: Bulldogs Suffer Road Setbacks at Midway Mark
Fresno State lost at Utah State (3-1) and Idaho (3-2) to fall to fifth in the WAC standings halfway through its league schedule. Freshman middle blocker Maci Murdock (Turlock, Calif.) led the `Dogs in Logan with a career-high 14 kills and delivered a .458 hitting percentag while the Bulldogs' libero Christina Lee, also freshman, notched a career-best 27 digs.
Wild Thriving on the Outside
Since the `Dogs lost All-WAC outside hitter Marissa Brand to injury, sophomore Korrin Wild has stepped up on the outside to help fill the major void. Wild started the year at libero and returned to outside hitter in a revamped rotation. Against WAC opponents, Wild, a team captain and Valley product, sports 3.5 kills, 2.4 digs and 0.5 aces per set.
FROM THE START: Fresno State Focused on Opening Stronger
A point of emphasis for the Bulldogs as they battle in the second half of the season is to start strong right from the first serve. With a combination of aggressive serving, passing and attacking, head coach Lauren Netherby-Sewell hopes to build on this mentality for the rest of the year. Through the first 17 matches this season, Fresno State is:
5-1 in matches when they win the opening set
3-10 in matches when they lose the opening set
Four Bulldogs Own Combined 15 Double-Doubles
Fresno State's Barbara Alcantara (6), Marissa Brand (4), Korrin Wild (3) & Christina Lee (2) have led the 'Dogs to 15 double-doubles through the first 19 matches this season.
