FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State's Hannah Prigge broke the eight year old 3-meter dual meet diving school record in a very close match up between the Bulldogs and the Nevada Wolf Pack.
Despite some strong individual performances and a new school record, the Bulldogs swam in seconds too late falling to Nevada 158.5-141.5.
"We had some good swims today," said head coach Jeanne Fleck. "Heidi Gjoen won both her events and Hannah Prigge broke the school record on the 3-meter dive. Dani Yoho won the 50 yard freestyle and Courtney Sheehan won the 1000 yard freestyle."
Sophomore diver Hannah Prigge scored a 295.73 on the 3-meter dive, breaking the eight-year-old Fresno State school record from 2002-03 previously held by Ashleigh Raley's 288.15.
In the pool it was a tightly contested meet where Fresno State swam in tenths of seconds behind Nevada in several events, earning second and third place finishes that just didn't rack up enough points to earn an overall victory for the Bulldogs.
"We weren't as sharp as we wanted to be today so it was a little disappointing," said Fleck. "We shouldn't be getting touched out in the events that we need to be winning. Those make a huge difference in points. That comes back to hurt us in the end."
Despite the loss, the Bulldogs did pick up multiple first place finishes throughout the meet.
The Bulldogs won the 400 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 4:01.38 and swimmers Heidi Gjoen, Britney Vogel, Rayanne Nguyen, and Dani Yoho. Fresno State also won the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay with a 3:36.01. The relay team consisted of swimmers Lucy Titchin, Dani Yoho, Brooke Fuller, and Courtney Sheehan.
"Brittany Buna and Brooke Fuller did a really nice job competing for us today," said Fleck.
Senior Gjoen picked up two wins in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a 1:00.30 and the 200 Yard Backstroke with a 2:08.87.
Yoho won the 50 Yard Freestyle with a 24.38 and Courtney Sheehan won the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a 10:42.80.
The Bulldog swimmers will travel to Stockton, Calif. next Friday, Nov. 4 to compete at University of the Pacific and the Fresno State divers compete at the USC Diving Invite in Los Angeles, Calif. on Nov. 4 and 5.
"We Are Your Team!" - The Fresno State swimming and diving team will return home on Saturday, Nov. 12 to compete against UC Davis.
