
Second Round Moves `Dogs Into 4-Way Tie

FRESNO, Calif. - After only playing one round last week in Washington to open the season, the Bulldogs doubled that mark Monday at the Wolf Pack Classic where they are in a four-way tie for eighth out of 14 teams after the first day of competition. The `Dogs are deadlocked with San Diego, Saint Mary's and Santa Clara.
The tournament, held at the 7,445-yard, par-72 Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course on the south shore of Lake Tahoe, was effected by cold, windy conditions.The `Dogs (308-298--606) improved by 10 shots in the second round and are 30-over going into the final day of competition. Their second round 298 was only three strokes off of the top score of the round.
Senior Bhavik Patel was the top performer for Fresno State on the day, shooting a 5-over, 149 to put him in a tie for 18th. Patel (77-72--149) fired an even-par, 72 in the second round, moving him up 25 positions in the standings. He is tied for second in Par 5 scoring at 4-under.
Freshman Keenan Nelson, competing in his first collegiate tournament and as an individual, carded a 6-over, 150 (74-76) to finish the day in 20th. Nelson is currently tied for second amongst the individuals.
Rufie Fessler (76-74--150), a native of Bakersfield, Calif., also tied for 20th at 6-over and sophomore Nate Jessup (78-73--151) sits right behind at 7-over, in a tie for 26th. Jessup's eight birdies ties him for the fourth most amongst the field of 80 competitors.
Jack Mulroy (77-79--156, +12) and Brian Sunker (81-81--162, +18) are in 56th and 74th place, respectively.
Nevada, the tournament's host, leads the field at 9-over after firing an opening round 6-under, 282. Jordan Weir of Sacramento State, Nevada's Gustavo Chuang and Jake Hedge of Wyoming are all tied for first place at even-par.
The Bulldogs will return to action Tuesday to compete in the final round of the Wolf Pack Classic with tee times starting at 8:30 a.m. PT.
