Jessup Paces `Dogs at Pacific Invite

FRESNO, Calif. - Sophomore Nate Jessup fired his lowest round of the season, 3-under, 68, as the Fresno State men's golf team sits in eighth place out of 12 teams after the first round of the Pacific Invitational in Stockton, Calif.
Jessup, a native of Springville, Calif., sank five birdies to lead the `Dogs with the best finish of the day, a tie for fourth place. He birdied the 532-yard, par-5 18th to drop to 3-under, his lowest round since carding a 7-under, 65 at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Hawai'i on February 18 of this year.Junior Rufie Fessler notched four birdies, including one also on the 18th hole, to shoot even-par, 71 and place in a tie for 20th.
Seniors Bhavik Patel (72, +1) and Brian Sunker (75, +4) finished the day tied for 31st and 50th, respectively, while junior Jack Mulroy will enter the second round in 58th place (79, +8).
The Bulldogs, as a team, recorded a 2-over, 286 to end the day only eight strokes behind first place leaders Nevada and Denver (278, -6). Olafur Loftsson of Charlotte sits in the individual lead at 6-under with Nevada's Kevin Lucas right behind at 5-under.
The Bulldogs return to action Tuesday to compete in the second round of the Pacific Invitational with tee times starting at 8 a.m. PT.
