Day One of Lexus Classic in the Books

FRESNO, Calif. - The familiar setting was welcoming for junior Johnny Partridge who blew away his previous low round mark as the Bulldogs compete in their home tournament, the Fresno State Lexus Classic. They will go into the final day of the tournament held at Fort Washington Country Club in ninth place out of 16 teams (363-367--730, +10).
Partridge, whose previous low was 72, fired a bogey-free second round 5-under, 67 which included five birdies and was the third lowest round on the day. Partridge climbed 45 positions to sit in a tie for 20th at 1-under to tie with Rufie Fessler for the top spot for the 'Dogs.Fessler shot solid rounds of 71 and 72, respectively, which included a stretch of three birdies over four holes.
"Rufie played his normal solid game," head coach Mike Watney said. "The real bonus is Johnny Partridge's 67 in the second round. He told me before the tournament he should be one of the starters and he is proving it."
Freshmen Macgregory Hoobery (75-73--148, +4) and Keenan Nelson (72-77--149, +5) finished the day in 50th and 56th place while Nate Jessup (73-78--151, +7) and Brian Sunker (72-80--152, +8) are in 69th and 75th.
Jack Mulroy, who is competing as an individual, also demolished his previous season high with a 3-under, 69 during the second round to sit in a tie for 27th. He ended the day birdieing three of his final six holes.
Oregon State (355-352--707, -13) holds the team lead with an 8-stroke advantage over Sacramento State and UC Irvine while Michael Yang of Irvine is in the individual lead at 9-under.
The 'Dogs will wrap up the Fresno State Lexus Classic Tuesday with their tee times starting at 9 a.m. PT.
