Lies, Ly 1st & 2nd as `Dogs Lead

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's golf team is in first place out of 15 teams after the first day of competition at the Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert, Calif.
The Bulldogs carded the lowest score in both rounds of competition, a 295 and 297, respectively. They were only one of two teams to shoot under 300 on the day and the only team to shoot under that mark in both rounds. The first round 295 was their lowest round of the season.The `Dogs (295-297--592, +16) hold a 10-shot lead over second place San Diego State and a 24-shot lead over third place Wyoming, the host of the tournament.
Individually, three Bulldogs ended the day in the top 10 and all five of them are in the top 25 in a field of 83 competitors.
The Bulldogs are led by senior Louisa Lies who opened up the tournament by firing a 2-under, 70, tying her for the lowest round of the tournament. She was only one of three golfers to shoot under-par on the day.
Lies sits in first place at 2-over after shooting a 76 during the second round. Her first round 70 is her lowest round of the season and first one under-par.
Right behind Lies is freshman Madchen Ly who is in a tie for second place at 3-over. Ly stroked an opening round 74 and followed it with a 73, tying her lowest round of the season.
Hillary Billingsley, a sophomore from Lemoore, Calif., also sits in the top 10 after carding an 8-over (77-75--132). Billingsley shot a 75 during the second round which tied her lowest round this year.
Krysta Clark also set her lowest round with a 73 on the final 18 holes of the day and sits in a tie for 14th at 10-over (81-73--154). Clark moved up 27 positions between the first and second round after improving on her score by eight shots.
Junior Shaylee Yano fired an opening round 74, her lowest of the season, and ended the day tied for 23rd at 13-over.
The Bulldogs will return to action Sunday at the 6,144-yard, par-72 Classic Club with tee times set for 7:30 a.m. PST.
