`Dogs Fall in Double Overtime

MALIBU, Calif. - The Fresno State women's basketball team lost to Pepperdine, 81-78, in a double overtime thriller on Friday night. The Bulldogs (1-2, 0-0 WAC) led most of the game before the Waves pulled ahead in the second overtime.
Junior Rosie Moult scored a team-high 22 points. The Preseason All-WAC selection made six 3-pointers, which ties her single-game record. Moult also led the team in rebounds with nine.
Fresno State had four players score in double figures against Pepperdine. Taylor Thompson added 19 points, Ki-Ki Moore had 12 points and Veronica Wilson scored 14 points.
The `Dogs fell behind early as Pepperdine opened the game with an 11-2 run. Wilson's free-throws were Fresno State's only points in the first four minutes of the game. A 3-pointer from Thompson ended the Waves early run. The sophomore ended the first half with five points.
Moult hit a huge trey to bring the `Dogs within three of the Waves. Pepperdine answered with a three of their own and the Bulldogs still trailed with under 13 minutes left in the first half.
Moore stole the ball and senior Blakely Goldberg drained a three from the right side of the arc. Goldberg's 3-pointer gave Fresno State its first lead of the game at the 10 minute mark in the first half.
Late in the first half, Fresno State went on a 10-0 run. The run was sparked by Moult hitting a 3-pointer in three-straight possessions.
The Bulldogs headed to the locker room with the lead 36-28 over Pepperdine. Moult finished the half with a team-high 15 points and five 3-pointers.
Moore hit a three from the left corner that increased the `Dogs lead to 47-42 with 12:25 left in the second half.
Moore added two more points with a spin move to the basket. She followed that with a defensive rebound on the other end of the court. Fresno State took advantage of the 2-1 match up after the rebound as Moult made the layup and the `Dogs lead grew to 55-49 at the 10 minute mark.
The Bulldogs pulled ahead by 10 with back-to-back three's from Wilson and Thompson. Fresno State led by as much as 12 points in the second half.
Pepperdine hit two free-throws with 12.2 second left to tie the game and send the Bulldogs into their first overtime of the year.
The `Dogs jumped ahead 72-69 in the first overtime period. Wilson hit a three with 2:30 remaining in the game. The Waves made three-of-four free-throws in the final seconds of the overtime period, which sent the game to double overtime.
Pepperdine pulled ahead in the second overtime and won the game, 81-78. Fresno State ends the road trip on Sunday, Nov. 20 at Cal Poly. The Bulldogs and Mustangs tipoff at 2 p.m.
