`Dogs Win in Final Seconds

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - A year ago Cal Poly came to the Save Mart Center and beat Fresno State in its home opener. This year, the Bulldogs got redemption by beating the Mustangs in the final seconds of the game at Mott Gym.
The `Dogs (2-2, 0-0 WAC) knocked three-of-four free-throws in the final 11 seconds of the game to seal the victory over Cal Poly. Freshman Madison Parrish hit the first two free-throws to give the Bulldogs the lead.
The final seven minutes was a one possession ball game and the lead changed 15 times before Fresno State earned its second win of the season.
Freshman Alex Sheedy started the second half with four points and the Bulldogs regained the lead 44-41 with 18:26 left on the clock. She scored a career-high 16 points and reached double figures for the first time in a Bulldog uniform. Sheedy also led the team in rebounds with 10.
Junior Rosie Moult hit a 3-pointer to ignite an 8-2 run by Fresno State. Moult was 4-for-7 from beyond the arc and scored a total of 12 points. The run was ended by a 3-pointer from Kristina Santiago, who finished the night with 27 points against the Bulldogs.
Parrish answered with another 3-pointer to put the `Dogs back up by five points with 11:27 remaining in the game. Parrish ended the game with 10 points.
Sophomore Ki-Ki Moore picked a steal and made a layup giving the' Dogs the lead 74-72 with 2:30 left in the game. The game was back and forth and not decided until the final seconds.
Fresno State opened the game with 6-2 run to take an early lead over Cal Poly. The Bulldogs had three consecutive possessions that resulted in 3-pointers and the `Dogs lead grew to 15-9 with 16 minutes left in the first half.
Senior Blakely Goldberg came up with a steal at half court with 12:45 left in the half. Goldberg's steal sparked an 8-4 run by the `Dogs, which increased their lead over Cal Poly 23-18. The Bulldogs largest lead of the half was nine over the Mustangs with just over 11 minutes to play in the half.
Cal Poly cut Fresno State's lead 32-31 with 6:56 left in the half and forced head coach Adrian Wiggins to call a timeout and slow the Mustangs momentum. Moore answered after the timeout with a 3-pointer to silence the Cal Poly crowd.
The Mustangs took their first lead of the game with 4:49 left in the half. Parrish drained a three to give the `Dogs back the lead. Two defensive rebounds and a charge kept the Bulldogs in the game and didn't allow Cal Poly to pull ahead.
At the half time break the Bulldogs trailed the Mustangs 41-40. Fresno State led most of the first half, which had a total of three lead changes.
"We Are Your Team!"-- The Bulldogs travel to Texas next week for the SMU Tournament Nov. 25-26. The `Dogs face Tennessee State in the first round of the tournament. Fresno State returns to the Save Mart Center on Dec. 1 to host Oregon. For more information on tickets call 278-DOGS.
