`Dogs Coast to Championship

DALLAS - The Fresno State women's basketball advanced to the finals of the Hoops for the Cure Tournament after defeating Tennessee State 83-66 in the semi-final game on Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs (3-2, 0-0 WAC) will face the winner of SMU/Cal State Fullerton game on Saturday, Nov, 26 at 5 p.m. PT.
"We started out pretty fast and got ahead right away," said sophomore Ki-Ki Moore. "We started to let up, but we pushed back enough to get the win."
The `Dogs third win of the season was led by Moore, who scored 20 points in the first game of the tournament. Five games into the season, Moore is averaging 17.6 points a game. She is also recorded a team-high eight rebounds and had three assists.
"I was just excited to play," said Moore. "It's fun and exciting to get a chance to play at other places or against people you don't usually play at home."
Also having a big game against the Lady Tigers was Preseason All-WAC selection Rosie Moult. The junior forward scored 17 points, three steals and three assists. Moult hit three 3-pointers and has drained 19 on the year.
Freshman Madison Parrish scored a career-high 15 points against TSU. Parrish was 4-for-7 from inside the arc.
Fresno State out rebounded the Lady Tigers 46-32. The Bulldogs had a total of 30 defensive rebounds and 16 offensive rebounds.
"I think we know each other better now and we play good together," said Moore. "We are sharing the ball a lot."
Fresno State had 16 assists against Tennessee State. Moore, Moult and Parrish led the team with three assists each.
The Bulldogs got off to fast start against the Lady Tigers with a 10-0 run taking an early lead. The `Dogs held Tennessee State scoreless for the first six minutes of the games.
Fresno State forced 12 turnovers in the first half and recorded five steals, which helped the `Dogs hold TSU to 22 points in the first half. Fresno State scored 17 points off turned over ball by the Lady Tigers.
Moore sparked the `Dogs offense with 14 first half points and seven rebounds. She was 5-for-6 at the free throw line and the Bulldogs shot 75 percent from the line.
At half time the `Dogs headed to the locker room with the lead 36-22 over Tennessee State. The 14 point lead was the largest of the half for the Bulldogs.
Fresno State opened the second half with a 7-0 run and its lead grew to as many as 21 over the Lady Tigers.
Parrish and Moult turned it up in the second half combining for 22 points. Parrish had led the team in the second half with 12 points. The `Dogs shot 53 percent from the field in the second half making 15-of-28 shots.
Freshman Robin Draper sank her first career 3-pointer in the final two minutes of the game.
Senior Veronica Wilson finished the game with 11 points and a pair of blocks. She also recorded four rebounds. The Bulldogs coasted to the championship game of the tournament after beating Tennessee State 83-66.
Fresno State wraps up SMU's Hoops for the Cure Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 26 against the winner of the SMU/Cal State Fullerton game at 5 p.m. PT. The Bulldogs will battle either the Titans or Mustangs for first place in the annual tournament.
