'Dogs Host Vandals In WAC Showdown

FRESNO, Calif. - On Saturday, Dec. 3 at noon the Fresno State Aquatics Center will feature a WAC showdown between the Bulldogs and the Idaho Vandals. This meet will mark the last competition of 2011 before the 'Dogs return home in 2012 for a triple dual meet on Jan. 14. The Bulldogs (2-3) are coming off a very successful weekend at the Arena Invitational where two school records were broken and season best times were swam in every event.
A Look At The Competition:
Idaho: The Vandals (1-3) most recently competed at the Houston Cougar Classic Invite.
Yoho To Compete At USA Senior Nationals
Dani Yoho, a junior from Sugar Land, Texas is traveling to the AT&T Winter National Championships in Atlanta, Ga. to compete in the long course 50 Meter Freestyle event. This is an Olympic year, so the swimmers will have the opportunity to achieve Olympic Trial qualifying standards. Yoho will compete on Thursday in the 50 Free and will return home to compete in the WAC meet against Idaho on Saturday.
Two School Records Set At Arena Invitational Junior Dani Yoho and sophomore Brittany Buna each broke a Fresno State school record at the Arena Invitational in Long Beach, Calif. Yoho swam a 23.04 in the 50 Free slashing one hundredth of a second off her previous school record set last season. Buna set a new school record in the 400 IM swimming in at 4:24.73 clipped the previous-top mark of 4:25.27. The Bulldogs set season best times every event and finsihed fourteenth out of 21 teams in a very competitive setting.
Divers Lead 'Dogs At Home
The Fresno State divers stole the show as Stacey Luke and Hannah Prigge took first and second in the 1-meter and 3-meter dive, respectively in a 106-194 loss to the UC Davis Aggies. Luke, a junior from Kenmore, Wash., dove for a career best in the 1-meter dive scoring a 275.40 breaking her past record by almost four points.
Sheehan Named Verizon WAC Swimmer Of The Week
Fresno State's Courtney Sheehan was named the Verizon WAC Swimmer of the week, respectively, for Oct. 31-Nov. 6. Her times in the 1650 and 500 were the fastest times recorded in the WAC this season. Sheehan, a freshman from Waukesha, Wis.( Waukesha South HS), delivered a dynamic performance, winning the 1650-yard freestyle and 500- yard freestyle, and finishing a close third in the 200-yard freestyle, as the `Dogs went 1-1 in a double-dual meet at the University of the Pacific.
'Dogs Dive Well At USC
The Fresno State divers traveled to the USC Diving Invitational to compete against nine other schools. Junior Stacey Luke, a junior from Kenmore, Wash., delivered strong, consistent dives all weekend. Luke finished fifth in the 1-meter dive on Friday and sixth in the 3-meter on Saturday, both events had 25 divers competing. Hannah Prigge finished fifteenth in the 1-meter and fourteenth in the 3-meter, barely missing the finals each day.
Sheehan Shines In Stockton
At the first double dual-meet of the season, freshman Courtney Sheehan delivered a dynamic performance winning the 1650 and 500 yard freestyle and took a close third in the 200 yard freestyle as the `Dogs went 1-1 on the day. The Bulldogs beat Seattle University 142-63 and lost to the University of Pacific 93-112, going 1-1 for the day. The Bulldogs had some really great swims at the meet and set numerous season best times.
