Dogs Fall In Season Opener

STANFORD, Calif. - The Fresno State women's lacrosse team faced a daunting task in its season-opener Wednesday night.
The Bulldogs traveled to Palo Alto, where they ran into a determined Stanford squad and fell 21-4.
Sophomore attacker Amanda Cross, who led Fresno State in scoring last season, picked up from where she left off and led the Bulldogs with two goals.Sophomore midfielders Sophie Walker and Natalie Harrington also scored for Fresno State (0-1).
Stanford, currently ranked No. 13 in the nation, has traditionally been a tough opponent for the Bulldogs. Last season, the Fresno State fell to the Cardinal 19-4 during the regular season and 16-1 during the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament.
Stanford (2-0) took a quick 3-0 lead on a goal by Karen Nesbitt with 26:23 left in the first half. But Cross pulled Fresno State to within striking distance one minute later. Goalie Katie Wilbur had five saves.
The Cardinal took 38 shots compared to eight by Fresno State. The Bulldogs travel to UC Davis on Saturday afternoon.
