Dogs Head to WAC Championships

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State swimming and diving team heads south to San Antonio, Texas for the Western Athletic Conference Championships. The championship will be held at the Palo Alto Natatorium in San Antonio Feb. 23-26. All-Session tickets (includes all 10 sessions) are $35 for adults and $25 for children ages 18 and under. Last year, the Bulldogs prevailed in a see-saw battle with Idaho to boost themselves in the standings to an eighth place finish. The Bulldogs look to do even better this year.

The Western Athletic Conference will stream the finals of all four nights of the 2011 WAC Swimming & Diving Championships, Feb. 23-26. Viewers can sign up at www.WAC.tv. The championship will be held at the Palo Alto Natatorium in San Antonio, Texas. Full schedules begin Thursday with finals in several events the next three nights. Each of those three nights can be viewed for a subscription of $5.95 or a full championship package can be purchased for $9.95. Finals begin at 6:30 p.m. CT on all four nights. Luke Earns WAC Diver of the Week
Fresno State's Stacey Luke was named the Verizon WAC Diver of the Week for Jan. 31-Feb.6. Luke, a sophomore from Kenmore, Wash. (Inglemoor HS), claimed the 1-meter diving title in Fresno State's dual meet with San Jose State on Feb. 5. Luke was victorious in the 1-meter as she claimed the event title with a score of 271.65. Her score was a career-best mark and it automatically qualified her for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships. Luke also claimed second-place in the 3-meter event. Stacey Luke and freshman Hannah Prigge have both qualified to dive at the NCAA Zones March 9-12.
Luke Qualifies for NCAA Zones
In the Bulldogs' final dual meet of the season, Fresno State's Stacey Luke qualified for the NCAA Zones in the 1-meter diving competition as the Dogs' 197-100 loss at San Jose State on Saturday. Hannah Prigge, who dove for the first time as the reigning WAC Diver of the Week and also qualified for the NCAA Zones in the Bulldogs' last competition at the Valley Invitational, finished second in the 1-meter event. On the swimming side, sophomore Dani Yoho won the 50 free. Britney Vogel picked up three second-place finishes in both breaststroke races (100 and 200) and the 200-yard IM.
Yoho Breaks School Record for the Fourth Time
Sophomore Dani Yoho smashed the Fresno State 50-yard freestyle record for the fourth time this season. At the beginning of the month Yoho broke the school record twice in one day at Washington State for a time of 23.49. At the Arena Invitational she did it again, breaking her record twice and improving her time to 23.30. Her time earned her an 11th place finish overall.
Dockendorf Earns WAC Honors
Fresno State's Michelle Dockendorf was named the Verizon WAC Swimmer if the Week for Oct. 13-19. Dockendorf, a freshman from Santa Barbara, Calif. (Dos Pueblos), scored the most points for the Bulldogs at the University of Pacific Invite on Oct. 15-16. Dockendorf placed in the top 10 in six events including an individual win in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:21.79. The was the first WAC Swimmer of the Week honors for the Bulldogs since the return of the program in 2008.
Bulldog Freshman Qualified for 2012 Olympic Trials
Fresno State swimmer Michelle Dockendorf qualified for the 2012 Olympic Trial Standards in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:34.44. The Santa Barbara native competed in the Southern California Junior Olympics in Thousand Oaks, Calif., winning the competition with a time that met the Trial Standard time set at 2:35.99. "It is a great step for Michelle and this program," head Fresno State swimming and diving coach Jeanne Fleck said. "To have an Olympic trial qualifier in the third year of our program is a great boost."
Fresno State's Centennial Celebration in Full Swing
Founded in 1911, Fresno State will celebrate its 100th anniversary during the 2010-11 academic year. The campus community will hold several special events on campus and with the athletic teams.
New Fresno State Swimming and Diving Complex Progresses
Construction on the new multi-million dollar aquatic complex is going well. Cement has been poured, blocks have been stacked, and progress can be seen on the complex that will sit directly east of Bulldog diamond off Barstow Ave. The facility will feature a 50-meter pool with eight lanes, including a one-meter, three-meter and platform diving well at five, seven and ten-meter heights, along with coach's offices. A wet classroom will also be available to swimmers and divers for just out-of-the water coaching and exercises, as well as both home and visiting locker rooms. The pool will be seven feet deep and the diving well 13-15 feet to accommodate swimmers and divers. The pool will also be swim meet ready with diving blocks, lane lines and flags. With the development of the new facility, the team will have the ability to host home meets and practice on campus, and give the `Dogs a permanent home.
