Dogs Come Out on Top Against Wildcats

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State adds one to their home record for the spring season as they defeated No. 51 Arizona.
Arizona swept the doubles, giving them a lead going into singles.
Dogs dominated in singles, Olga Kirpicheva earned the first point for Fresno State after defeating Wildcat's Jane Huh, 6-2, 6-2.
Keeping the momentum high and going No. 81 Abby Hayley conquered Susan McRann, 7-5, 6-4.
Dropping her first set Bianca Modoc rallied back and took junior, Debora Castany to three matches, 5-7, 6-4, 6-0, earning the Dogs their third point of the match. The final match of the day and the deciding point of the match, No. 75 Marianne Jodoin competed back and forth for hours with Wildcats' Lacey Smyth. Dropping the first set to Smyth, Jodoin showed true heart and skills taking Smyth to three matches and coming out on top, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.
"I am very proud of my team," head coach Simon Thibodeau said. "They fought hard and were victorious against a ranked Pac-10 team. It's extremely good for our confidence and we're staying focused for our WAC rival match on Sunday."
Arizona earned singles victories on courts 2 and 3.
The Bulldogs will stay at home on Sunday when they take on the Nevada Wolf Pack at 9:30 a.m. at the Wathen Tennis Center.
