Bulldogs Defeat WAC Foes

FRESNO, Calif. - The Bulldogs competed against the Wolf Pack Sunday morning at the Wathen Tennis Center, after falling in doubles the Dogs rallied back and earned five victories in singles.
Doubles started the day off for the women, Laura Pola and Marianne Jodoin earned the lone doubles set victory against the Wolf Pack's Lais Ogata and Aodhnait Lombard, 8-3.
Nevada earned victories on courts two and three, picking up the doubles point.
High-energy filled the atmosphere as Fresno State entered the singles portion of the competition.
Bianca Modoc earned the first point for the Bulldogs, sweeping her first set against Nevada's Gabriela Eufrasio. Allowing Eufrasio only one game in the second set, Modoc came out on top, 6-1.
The wins kept coming for Fresno State as sophomore, Melissa McQueen dropped one game in each set won earning her first singles victory of the 2011 spring season, 6-1, 6-1.
Abby Hayley kept the momentum alive for the Dogs as she pulled an early lead against Nevada's Lais Ogata in the first set 6-1 and followed through with a victory in the second set, 6-1.
Ranked 75th nationally Marianne Jodoin battled each point out with the Wolf Pack's Michelle Okhremchu. Competing on court one, Jodoin pulled ahead in the first and second set and achieved victory, 6-4, 6-1.
Earning Fresno State's final point of the day, Pola battled to three matches against Emma Verberne and took home the victory, 6-1, 3-6, 7-5.
Nevada earned singles points on court 6.
"I'm extremely happy with our singles today," head coach Simon Thibodeau said." We achieved our goals this weekend and team is very proud."
Fresno State is back in competition at home on Feb. 19 against Sacramento State at 12 p.m. and Pacific at 6 p.m.
