No. 20 Fresno State Falls to No. 29 Huskers

LINCOLN, Neb. - No. 20 Fresno State baseball lost its second game of the season on Sunday after winning five straight games. The Bulldogs were edged 5-4 by No. 20 Nebraska and are 11-2 on the season.
The Dogs gave up five runs in the third inning and answered quickly with three runs in the next half inning. Two of the runs in the fourth inning rally came from a two-run home run from Preseason All-WAC pick Dusty Robinson, who has hit three home runs this season. The Bulldogs tallied seven hits, while for the second-consecutive day the pitchers did not allow any walks. The pitching staff combined for 27 strikeouts against the Huskers in three games.
Junior Tom Harlan sat down the Huskers batter 1-2-3 in the first inning. He struck out two batters in three innings.
Designated hitter Kenny Wise recorded the first hit of the game with a single to center field.
The Bulldogs cleared the bases and ended the bottom of the second inning by turning a double play. Fresno State has fielded 13 double plays this season.
Junior Pat Hutcheson knocked a double to left field for his third hit of the series. Third baseman Danny Muno grounded out as Hutcheson advanced to third base on the play. Hutcheson scored a run on a passed ball and the Dogs took the lead 1-0 in the top of the third inning.
Nebraska answered with five runs in the bottom of the third inning. Cody Asche hit a three-run home run to right field as the Huskers took a 5-1 lead.
First baseman Jordan Ribera reached base after getting hit by a pitch. Robinson launched a two-run home run to right field as the Dogs trailed the Huskers 5-3. The Dogs added another run with a single to center field by Austin Wynns and the Bulldogs trailed 5-4.
Justin Haley made his second appearance of the season on Sunday. The sophomore sat down the batters in order in the fifth inning. He recorded five scoreless innings maintaining his 0.00 overall ERA and struck out four batters.
The Dogs lost to Nebraska 5-4 on Sunday, but took the series after winning two of three games over the weekend.
"We Are Your Team!" The Bulldogs return home on March 17 hosting Washington State for a four-game series. March 17 begins a 13 game home stand where the Dogs face Washington State, Ohio State, San Diego and San Francisco before opening Western Athletic Conference play.
