FRESNO, Calif. - Nearly 50 years ago, John Sirman made magic on the links as a member of the Fresno State men's golf team. And now, he is doing his part to ensure future Bulldogs have the same opportunity he did five decades ago.
Sirman enjoyed a decorated golf career at Fresno State from 1961-64, a memorable four-year run culminated by a conference individual title in 1964 as well as All-American honors.
Forty-six years after his graduation, Sirman has established a planned estate gift through the Bulldog Foundation that will provide scholarship assistance to the men's golf program in future years. An endowed John Sirman Memorial Men's Golf Scholarship has been started with an initial donation of $10,000, and the gift will grow to $100,000 with continued donations or be completed after Sirman's passing.
Sirman, who is also a two-time Fresno City golf champion, served on the California Football Bowl Board of Directors all 10 years of its existence, including two years as president. He was a 15-year volunteer official with the Northern California Golf Association. In addition to his four years as a Bulldog golfer, Sirman says his favorite golf moment was qualifying for and playing in the 1968 British Open.
The Bulldog Foundation thanks this former student-athlete for his special gift. There are several ways Fresno State alumni and friends can leave a legacy while helping contribute to the university's future. The area of planned giving allows as much flexibility as donors may desire or as much commitment and income tax savings as one needs.
