Dogs Claw Past Three on Final Day

FRESNO, Calif. - Nate Jessup, after being disqualified Friday for signing an inaccurate score card, bounced back Saturday to lead Fresno State with a final round of even par. Jessup recorded back-to-back-to-back birdies on the back nine of the 7,142-yard, par-72 Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah.
The Bulldogs (299-290-292--881, +17) moved up three spots to finish in tenth place out of eighteen teams at the 49th annual PING Cougar Classic.
"I saw some good things from several people," head coach Mike Watney remarked. "Brad Wyatt has been able to elevate his game which has helped us tremendously."
Wyatt, a senior from La Verne, Calif., finished in the top spot for the Dogs by tying for 32nd place with a 3-over (77-69-73--219). Senior Bryan Hogan ended up one stroke behind Wyatt at 4-over (74-69-77--220), putting him in a tie for 40th.
Juniors Brian Sunker (71-79-73--223, +7) and Bhavik Patel (77-73-74--224, +8) concluded the tournament tied for 55th and 62nd, respectively.
After a dominating final round of 13-under, Colorado State (284-288-275--847, -17) claimed the tournament title with UNLV (280-285-286--851, -13) four strokes behind to finish second.
Zac Blair (71-69-65--205, -11) of tournament host BYU fired a 7-under, 65 to edge out Pacific's Alex Edfort (68-69-69--206, -10) to take home the individual title.
The Bulldogs return to action May 2-4 to compete in the WAC Championship.
