FRESNO, CA - The Fresno State men's golf team will open their season in Arizona this week as they get set to compete in the Bombs Darts Birds Collegiate, hosted by USC, at Whirlwind Golf Club from Sept. 7-8.

The 13-team field includes: Arkansas State, Baylor, Cal, Eastern Michigan, Fresno State, James Madison, New Mexico State, Santa Clara, Stanford, University of Louisiana Monroe, University of Texas at El Paso, USC, and Washington State. Â

WHO'S BACK
Fresno State will return five players from last season
Chris Bettencourt returns for his third season with the men's golf program at Fresno State. The junior from Clovis, California competed in seven tournaments last season, including the 2026 Mountain West Men's Golf Championship where he recorded a season-best 19th place finish and a season-low round of 4-under 68 in the second round of the tournament.
Nash Arthurs is coming off his freshman season where he competed in eight tournaments while producing a 74.0 season scoring average. In only the second tournament of his collegiate career, Arthurs recorded a career-best seventh place finish at the St. Mary's Invitational, shooting a season-low round of 3-under 69.Â
Zack Tarter enters his second season with Fresno State following a one-year stint at UC Davis. As a sophomore, Tarter competed in all 11 tournaments during the season where he recorded 4 top-30 finishes and one Top-10 finish. His best finish of the season came at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, placing seventh after posting a score of 6-under 210.Â
Von Wasson, a native of Centralia, Washington, competed in all 11 tournaments last season and posted a 73.1 season scoring average. The junior recorded three Top-25 finishes, including a season-best seventh place finish at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, tying with teammate Zack Tarter with a score of 6-under 210.
Sophomore Akira Ransi also is set to return for his sophomore season with Fresno State following a freshman season where did not appear in any tournaments.
WHO'S NEW
Three new players will be joining the Fresno State men's golf program this season.
Sophomore Jonathan Chen, a transfer from Dominican University, joins the Bulldogs after competing in 10 tournaments for the Penguins. Chen recorded a 73.7 season scoring average as a freshman, and posted a career-best second place finish at the Visit Stockton DII Invitational.
Julian Monas and Julian Rombouts, junior transfers from the University of Oregon and Reedley College respectively, look to make an impact on the links in their first season with the men's golf program at Fresno State.Â
