Dogs Earn Doubles Point but fall to Waves

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State women's tennis falls to the No. 26 Pepperdine Waves, 4-3 Saturday afternoon at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
Doubles team Laura Pola and Marianne Jodoin started the day off for the Dogs with a high-powered victorious match against No. 34 doubles team Marie Zalameda and Anamika Bhargava. The Dogs defeated the Waves 8-2 on court one and finished first in doubles play.
Finishing second in the day, Melissa McQueen and Olga Kirpicheva were set aside by Ale Granillo and Khunpak Issara, 8-5.
Clinching the doubles point for the Dogs, Abby Hayley and Bianca Modoc defeated Tara Panu and Arianna Colffer, 9-7.
In singles, No. 99 Jodoin advanced her season record after defeating Pepperdine's number one player Colffer, 7-5, 6-3.
Finishing first in the day, McQueen fell to Bhargava on court three, 6-4, 6-2.
On court six, Hayley was defeated Megan Moore, 6-4, 6-1 and the Waves advanced to 2-1 over the Dogs.
Modoc was set aside by Issara on court four, 6-3, 6-3 giving the Waves a 3-1 lead.
The match was clinched on court five, by Zalameda who defeated Kirpicheva, 7-6, 6-3.
Pola earned the Dogs third point of the day on court two defeating Granillo in three sets, 6-2, 6-4, 6-2.
Fresno State travels to Palo Alto next week to take on the top-seeded No. 1 Stanford on Friday.
