LAS CRUCES, N.M. - After moving into sole possession of first place in the WAC on Friday night, the No. 23 Fresno State softball team suffered a pair of setbacks (10-2 and 9-1) to the New Mexico State Aggies on a windy Saturday afternoon in Las Cruces, N.M.
A howling wind that included gusts of over 50 miles per hour caused havoc all afternoon and made any ball in play an adventure.
The two losses dropped Fresno State (23-11, 7-2 WAC) into third place in the WAC standings, one game behind Boise State and New Mexico State, who are tied for first at 8-1.
Of the Bulldogs' highlights, senior Nicole Angene launched her fourth home run of the season in the afternoon's rubber match.
Fresno State leftfielder Andrea Ortega made a nice running snowcone catch in the day's opening game. In the series finale, Kaylan Pollard earned her eighth start of the season out in right field and pulled in a fly ball.
Michelle Moses (9-9, 4-2 WAC) made both starts and picked up the two losses in the circle.
The Bulldogs will next face San Jose State on Friday and Saturday back in Fresno where the Dogs are 11-1 this season.
