Dogs Fall to No. 11/12 Stanford

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Fresno State softball team dropped a NCAA Regional showdown with No. 11/12 Stanford by the final of 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Smith Family Stadium.
The Cardinal scored a pair of runs in the second on back-to-back RBI singles for a 2-0 lead.
Bulldog senior third baseman Nicole Angene cut the deficit in half with one swing of the bat as the Norco-native launched a soaring solo home run into the ivy behind the left field fence in the fifth.
Stanford (40-15) scored an additional insurance run in the sixth and held on to advance to Sunday's regional championship finals.
Fresno State (35-18) now must win three elimination games to win the Regional, starting at 6 p.m. tonight against the winner of the afternoon elimination contest between No. 16/20 Nebraska and Pacific.
